As a part of the New Zealand Internet Blackout in protest against the ridiculous 'guilt by accusation' law about to come into force (I think it's amazing they've managed to write a law that is both draconian and absolutely toothless at the same time), the folks at Creative Freedom NZ have organised the Copywrong Song: Remix Challenge.

Basically, it's a piece of music by Disasteradio and Mike Corb of which they've uploaded the individual tracks, inviting people to remix it and upload it for others to check out. The song itself is a cheesy but sweet little number about the idiocy and wrongfulness of the law change, so this morning I had a go, and this is what I got (right-click, save as):

Copywrong (luna spark remix - loud master)

Copywrong (luna spark remix - quiet master)

Legal bit:

This song has been released under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 New Zealand License, which means that it is FREE for you to download, share, copy, distribute, sell, remix, and sample provided that you:

Attribute the work to the Creative Freedom Foundation including the url http://creativefreedom.org.nz
Share Alike: If you alter, transform, or build upon this work, you may distribute the resulting work but remember that other people get to remix your work too!

EDIT: In a grand piece of irony, MySpace won't let me use a black square as the icon for the song, claiming: "There was an error: "Photos may not contain nudity, violent or offensive material, or copyrighted images. If you violate these terms your account will be deleted."

WTF?!

Some people see money in everything, don't they? There's a reason there are millions upon millions of MySpace band pages, but only a few thousand have their own Wikipedia page. luna spark even had a page briefly, till someone decided I wasn't noteworthy enough, haha.

In other news... I'm totally going to acquire a copy of this software and make the most kick-ass rock album the world has ever seen. I'm 27, so should be at the peak of my powers, right? Right.

I'm off to work now.

Well, it seems I can't post the fruits of my handiwork here on LJ, something doesn't quite work with the code. But anyway, I can link you what I was going to embed easily enough - like this. I've set up, using last.fm, a whole bunch of widget things so people can now stream all the luna spark albums directly from my website, or wherever accepts the code, like myspace (look down the left hand side - it's a madhouse). Before I had to send people off to other sites, where they had to open separate pages and make an effort. Now, it's as easy as youtube.

That first link goes to a 'best of' my stuff kind of mix, in my opinion anyway. Best thing though? I can change it, and everywhere it's embedded will change. In theory. Awesome.

Anyway... it's late, and I have a lot of work to do tomorrow. Interviewing one of [info]tariqa's friends/co-workers for a news story she's been involved with... and writing others and hunting down others and freaking out about others and so on.

Tariqa has gotten back into the Sims, and has curled her hair into something bouffy.

New Order have broken up. This time, for good apparently. This news outweighs any number of new Terminator movies. Sad! I'm glad I got to see them at least once - Big Day Out, 2002, I think. They hold the dubious distinction of being the only band I saw all day that managed to completely screw up and go out of time with another. Ironic, since they also relied the most heavily on electronics of all the bands I saw. And they were awesome. Joy Division's "Transmission" may sound like impossible to improve on, but you haven't heard it with Bernard Sumner's whoops like I have.

Unless you've also seen New Order live, in which case, you know what I mean.

Anyway... in better news from today, I managed to get my two stories done. The council called me right in the middle of class, which took me by surprise, but I got the majority of what I needed - ie. good quotes. Now I just have to convince the arts editor to choose my article!

I'm playing literati on Yahoo, and it tells me "grunty" is not a word. Yet somehow, "gey" and "swasher" are. And no, I haven't googled either of them to know if they are legit, but they just sound wrong. Haha, I just got "gey" again. Does literati have some kind of user-submitted dictionary of crap or something?

Wow. I just scored 27 points with "wany". This game is seriously wack. You could even call it... wany.

(I just checked, and "wany" is a word. And swasher means, "one who makes a blustering show of valor or force of arms." Wow.)

I'm sitting here waiting for a call from the pro vice chancellor of research here at AUT. I know he's not going to call, becuase he's foiled my investigations once before already, sending me on a wild goose chase after someone else, only to find out he, the PVC, is the only one taking enquiries from 'the media' about the issue.

On that wild goose chase though, I didn't find any geese (nor the guy I was looking for), but I did find something of a ghost floor here in the tower. Floors one and three were blocked off entirely, and there was no lift access to two but I got there by using the stairs... only to find nothing. Just a bunch of dark, empty rooms and electrical equipment. Cooool...

Anyway. Tariqa and I broke up on Monday night. She came back on Tuesday morning. That's all I'll say about that. Buried here in this post about ghost floors and...

iGoogle! Has anyone else here used it? It's pretty cool. It's like having a summary of all your favourite websites and blogs and things on one page. And a reminder list thingee, which I need pretty badly. I've even remembered to bring my USB drive to uni two whole days in a row! WOAH.

Dragonforce are coming to NZ. I want to go, mostly to see what kinds of people go to Dragonforce shows. I want to go to GnR too, mostly to see Axl's ginger braids.

I've uploaded the next two tracks from The Siren and Trigger Happy Little Finger to my myspace, they should be downloadable.
